Week beginning 15th  July

More pirate fun this week. The children are really good at doing all the actions for the pirate song. They have been busy pretending to be pirates in the pirate ship outside and they have also been busy building pirate dens. Thank you to all grown ups who came to sports day and cheered on the children. They did really well. As we approach the end of the year, we would like to say a huge thank you to everyone for all your support this year and we hope you have a lovely holiday.

AAAARRRRR - This week we have been learning all about pirates. We have enjoyed reading books about pirates and learning pirate songs. The children have also made some fantastic pirate pictures using a photo of their face and adding on pirate accessories. They have enjoyed playing with the pirate ships and pirate figures as well as dressing up in our pirate costumes. They have also been playing on the pirate ship outside and digging for treasure in the digging area.

A great big Well Done to all the children for a fantastic assembly this week.  A big thank you to all parents as well for coming along. The children did really well and had super loud voices. Everyone enjoyed showing their animal masks and snake pictures. Thank you for all the kind comments after the assembly. 

We have also been learning about healthy food this week. Our number of the week is 5 and we have learned about having 5 fruit and vegetable portions a day. Some of the children really enjoyed their transition day to Reception on Thursday and we hope you had a great time at the fair on Friday.

We have been learning all about pets this week and on Wednesday we had a visit from Michala who brought in some of her lovely pets. These included a fluffy rabbit and guinea pigs. A not so fluffy snake and cockroach, a tortoise and a giant African snail. The children were all very brave and very careful stroking and holding the animals. The children have also been making masks of their favourite animals.

We have been continuing our topic on the 3 Little Pigs this week. The children have been bricklayers this week looking at the pattern of the bricks on our school wall and then mixing some mortar in the cement mixer and copying the pattern with our own bricks. We have also been talking about healthy eating this week and sorting out foods into vegetables, fruit and meat. Some of the children were able to get out in between the rain and pick some radishes. Hopefully the weather will be a little better next week and the rest will be able to pick some too.

Welcome back. We hope you had a nice break. We are now into the final half term this year and it's going to be a busy one. This week we have started to read 'The 3 Little Pigs' and the children have enjoyed joining in with the words from the story. We have been looking at the materials the pigs used to build their houses and how easy they were to blow just like the wolf did. We decided that bricks were the best thing because they were hard and heavy. The children have been making their own brick walls in the sand. They have also been painting the pigs' houses. Shamus and Darcey were in Well Done assembly for being really kind to others and Rochelle was our 'Always' person of the week.

We have been having more rainbow fun this week. The children have painted some fantastic rainbows which are on display in the classroom. They are getting really good at naming all the colours of the rainbow. The children have also had a lot of fun with biscuits this week. After watching a video of Mr Cattermoul dunking biscuits the children tested different biscuits to find out which were the best for dunking. And the result - Jammie Dodgers. Mmmmm. My favourite. Rochelle and Dylan were in Well Done assembly for their keen interest in the biscuit experiment.

We have been looking at book by our class author - Lucy Cousins. 'Maisy's rainbow dream is a book all about a mouse who has a very strange dream with all of the colours of the rainbow. So, this week the children have been learning all about the colours of the rainbow. They have painted a fantastic big rainbow which we have displayed on the window. The children have also been exploring colour mixing with the paints. They have been doing really well learning the letter sounds and writing letters this week too.

'Cars and Trucks and things that Go' by Richard Scarry has been one of our books this week which has some very funny vehicles in it such as an alligator car and a doughnut car. We have been learning all about different kinds of vehicles and what they are used for. The children have been busy making their own cars and fire engines. They have enjoyed making really long train tracks. Isabella and Daniel were in the music Well Done assembly for singing the Jolly Phonics songs really well.

More Jack and the Beanstalk fun this week. We have been planting magic bean seeds and are waiting for them to grow up to the sky to see if there's a castle at the top. We have also been planting radish seeds in the school garden. We also did some Jack and the Beanstalk PE by making a beanstalk and climbing up and down it. The children have also been making green with the paint. Ask them what colours they used to make green. Well done to all those children who found lots of green things at home for the learning log task this week.

Fe Fi Fo Fum fun this week reading Jack and the beanstalk. The children have been making their own beanstalk and giants castle. They have been looking at beans and next week we will be planting some in the school veg garden. This week Leah was in well done assembly for her super work in her Learning Log and Jacob for his phonics work. Darcey was our always person this week.

Next Tuesday at 3pm we will be having a parents information drop in session about helping your child with their writing.

Welcome back. We hope you had a nice holiday. The children have enjoyed some fun Easter activities this week and they really enjoyed making chocolate Easter nests. They have made some lovely Easter cards too. During the holidays Mr Cattermoul collected some frogspawn and the children have been looking at them with magnifying glasses. So far they haven't turned into tadpoles but fingers crossed they will have by next week. Enjoy the Easter weekend and we will see you on Tuesday.

We have all been full of the joys of Spring this week. Our book this week is called 'The Green Line' and is about a child who goes on a Spring walk so on Wednesday we went on a Spring walk around the school grounds. We found lots of Spring flowers beginning to grow such as daisies, daffodils and crocuses. Some of the leaves had started to grow on the trees and we even saw a bumble bee and a ladybird. The children collected lots of daisies and sticks and we made numbers with them. The children then made their own Green Line pictures for our Spring display. They also painted some lovely Daffodil pictures.

This week we have been reading 'Barry the Fish with Fingers' all about a fish who uses his fingers to amaze his fish friends. So this week we have been using our fingers to do some amazing things. The children have been playing the keyboard and other musical instruments. They have been finger painting and have also made some super underwater pictures with printed bubbles and fish hand prints which are on display in the cloakroom. The children have also been counting and sorting fish and shells this week. The task in their Learning Log this week is to find out about animals that live in the sea.

We have been celebrating World Book Day this week. Our focus book was Max the Brave which all the children have received a copy of from the Booktrust. A big thank you to all those grown ups who were able to make it to the funtime session on Thursday. The children really enjoyed making a Max the cat and decorating their book bags. I didn't know we had so many artistic parents in this Nursery class! The children have been busy learning about the 'm' sound this week and have done lots of work in the different areas.

We have been reading 'Green Eggs and Ham' by Dr Seuss this week and looking at the rhymes in the book. The children have really enjoyed doing lots of other rhyming work this week sorting out words into matching rhymes. The children have some work to do in their learning logs to find rhymes. We have also been making green by mixing blue and yellow. We have been finding lots of pairs of things this week and working with the number 2.

Next week we will be having a World Book Day fun time session on Thursday.

Week beginning 11th February

We have all been enjoying the sunny weather this week which isn't what we are normally used to in February! The children have been making dens and enjoyed riding the bikes on the grass again. We have been revisiting the stories from this half term - Rabbits in the Snow ; 3 Billy Goats Gruff and George and the Dragon. The children recalled all the stories really well. In the second week back after half term we will be having a special book week so look out for information in the first week back about children bringing in their favourite story books from home. Enjoy the break!

We found out all about Chinese New Year this week. We had great fun making lanterns and dragons and eating Chinese noodles with chopsticks which got a bit messy but the children really enjoyed slurping them up and they were surprisingly good with the chopsticks. We decorated the classroom with the lanterns which looked great. The children enjoyed listening to stories about dragons and had fun doing dragon dances.

Week beginning 28th January

The children have enjoyed another week learning about the 3 Billy Goats Gruff story. They have been making their own pictures of the story by cutting out the different scenes and characters in the story. The task in their Learning Journey is recall the story through words and pictures. They have continued to enjoy retelling the story using the finger puppets.

We have been finding different ways of moving in PE and the children have been practising their jumping and landing.

Next week we will be learning about Chinese New Year and finding out all about dragons!

 

Week beginning 21th January

"Who's that trip trapping over my bridge" said the troll. The children have loved acting out the story of the 3 Billy Goats Gruff with the finger puppets this week. They have learnt the story really well. We have been talking about different sizes - small, medium and large and comparing the sizes of different objects. We have been looking at the number 3 and singing lots of nursery rhymes about that number such as 3 Blind Mice and Baa Baa Black sheep. We have been making green paint by mixing together blue and yellow.

Week beginning 14th January

Another week on our Winter topic. We have been making bird food this week mixing lard and seeds together. We put it on the bird table and have been using the binoculars to watch the birds but so far there haven't been any! We have been finding out about things beginning with the W sound and have been looking at opposite words from our book - 'Rabbits in the snow'.

Next week will be reading '3 Billy Goats Gruff'

A warm welcome back. We hope you had a lovely Christmas holiday. A warm welcome to our new starters this week who have settled in really well to the start of their school life. We have started a new topic on Winter this week. We have been taking about how cold it can be at this time of year. We have discovered how ice is formed when water freezes and we made some ice blocks with objects frozen into them. We discovered that they soon melted when we held them in our warm hands. Next week we are going to make some bird food.

Week beginning 10th December

What a fantastic job the children did in our first nativity. They all performed really well and I know lots of parents were really proud of them. It was really nice to get so many thank yous at the end of the performance. There are some pictures of the children below and there are also more pictures on the Reception class web page. The children have also been busy doing lots of Christmas crafts this week.

 

Week beginning 3rd December

Lots of festive fun this week. The children have been finger painting Christmas baubles. They have been practising their cutting skills. A big thank you to all the parents who came to our 'Stay and Make' on Thursday morning. It was a glittering success! The children now have some lovely decorations to hang on our Christmas tree and of course they can take them home afterwards. The children have been working really hard on the Christmas performance. This week Iyla and Logan were in Well Done assembly for always being kind and friendly to their friends and Aleighcia was our 'Always' person of the week.

A big thank you to all of you who came along to our Christmas Fair on Friday.

Week beginning 26th November

More dinosaur fun this week. The children have been listening to lots of different dinosaur books this week and we have been talking about story books and fact books. We have also been exploring dinosaur facts on the internet and watching Andy and the Dinosaurs on the CBBC website.

We have also been very busy practising our songs for the Christmas performance. 

Reggie was in the history Well Done assembly as he has shown great enthusiasm for our dinosaur topic, Harper was our 'always' person of the week.

Week beginning 19th November

RRROOOAAARRR! Dinosaur week this week. We have had lots of fun making a dinosaur world. We have been learning the names of some of the dinosaurs - some are very tricky to say. We have been reading lots of dinosaur themed books and doing dinosaur dances in PE. We made some paper plate dinosaurs which look really good. 

Week beginning 12th November

RHYME WEEK. We have had great fun performing lots of nursery rhymes this week. On Monday, we did 5 Currant buns, on Tuesday - Humpty Dumpty, on Wednesday - A Sailor went to Sea and Thursday it was Hickory Dickory Dock. We then performed some of the rhymes in assembly on Friday. The children have been making lots of props for each nursery rhyme and then acting out each one. They have also been practising their cutting skills this week. 

Our new topic next week is dinosaurs which I know lots of the children will be really excited about.

 

Week beginning 5th November

The children have been telling us all about their holidays this week and what they did for Halloween and Bonfire night. We have had some lovely work in their Learning Logs - Thank You. We have been making bonfire and firework pictures this week by swishing paint onto black paper and sprinkling on different coloured glitter. Rochelle and Isabella were in Well Done assembly for their lovely artwork. We have also been singing lots of bonfire night songs and rhymes this week. 

The children have also been very excited as it has been our turn to look after the guinea pigs. We have been talking about how to look after them and making sure they have lots of fresh fruit and vegetables.

Week beginning 22nd October

We have had a Halloween theme this week reading 'Room on the Broom'. The children have enjoyed listening to the story and then using props to retell the story in their own words. We have also carved pumpkins this week. The children have been making potions in the mud kitchen and play dough spiders. Our letter of the week has been P and we have been finding out about fruits and vegetables that begin with the P sound.

Week beginning 15th October

"Run run as fast as you can. You can't catch me I'm the Gingerbread Man!" We have had great fun learning the Gingerbread Man story this week. The children have learned the story really well and have enjoyed joining in with words. We had great fun making gingerbread men on Wednesday and the children all said that they really enjoyed eating them when they got home. The children have also been drawing and labelling pictures of gingerbread men as well as making some out of play dough. We have been doing lots of work on our number of the week - 4 and our sound Rr.

Week beginning 8th October

More Autumn fun this week. We have been making leaf pictures and leaf prints. We have talked about hedgehogs and made some super ones out of play dough. Homework this week is to find out all about hedgehogs. We have continued to collect Autumn objects and made a display. We have been making lots of voice sounds this week and reading a book called 'A lovely Day for Amelia Goose' which is all about different sounds. Bella and Ronnie were in Well Done assembly for their super counting and Jordan was our 'Always' person.

Week beginning 1st October

Autumn week. We have been finding out all about Autumn this week. We have been on an Autumn nature walk around the school grounds collecting lots of different coloured leaves. We also collected some delicious apples from the trees and the children really enjoyed them at snack time. We had a look at some conkers and acorns and then made some fantastic pictures by dipping the conkers in paint and rolling them around on a piece of paper, making some very interesting patterns. We have been talking about different textures and this week's homework is to find smooth and bumpy objects. On Friday we had a visit from the Road Safety team and the children listened really well about staying safe near roads and in cars.

Week beginning 24th September

The children have really been enjoying our story of 'The Selfish Crocodile' and looking at the different facial expressions of the animals. We have had some super homework showing different 'feelings' faces. The children have been painting self portraits this week which are on display in the classroom and look really great. We have been finding out more about the number 2 this week and the homework is to find pairs of things at home. Matilda and Leah were in Well Done assembly this week and Daniel was our 'Always' person of the week.

Week beginning 17th September

We have been talking about feelings this week and how we help each other to be happy in school. We have been reading a book called 'When I'm feeling Kind' which is all about a rabbit that is kind to different people in lots of ways and then talking about how we can be kind in school. We have been talking about different emotions and drawing happy and sad faces. The homework this week is to draw or take photos of happy and sad faces. The children have been learning the new routines really well and are little superstars when it comes to tidy up time. 

Week beginning 10th September

Our new nursery children have settled in really well this week and have had a great time exploring their new environment. We have been talking about our class name which is Kandinsky after the artist Wassily Kandinsky. We have looked at some of his pictures and the children have really enjoyed painting circle pictures which are amazingly like the artist's painting! They are on display in the classroom - please come and take a look.

We then had a circle treasure hunt and looked for circle shaped objects in the classroom and around school. Take a look below. The children have a task in their Learning Log to find circle shapes objects at home which needs to be in by next Wednesday.

Week beginning 4th September
