Leeds City Council Children’s Services (Head of Arts Development)

I have worked in Leeds for 30 years and  I live in Wortley.  I am Head of Arts Development for ArtForms - the music and arts team within Children's Services, Leeds City Council. In this role I am responsible for:

·      Arts strategy - designing and delivering an arts offer for schools in Leeds.

·      Project management - brokering partnerships between schools, artists and arts organisations. Managing budgets and resources. Fundraising.

·      Professional development - coordinating a programme of training for teachers and artists including support for Artsmark and Arts Award.

·      Safeguarding and quality assurance - evaluating programmes of work and promoting best practice in relation to safeguarding.

I believe the arts have an important role to play in children’s learning and can support teaching across all subject areas.  In my role as governor, I chair the Teaching and Learning committee. Through the work of this committee, I know that there is a real commitment at Cobden primary to deliver a broad and balanced curriculum. All pupils have the opportunity to participate in exciting and rich, arts and cultural learning experiences. This includes trips to museums, galleries and places of interest as well as bringing Artists into school to work alongside teachers and pupils.
