Frequently Asked Questions

When are the school holidays?

We follow the Leeds City Council Academic Calendar and term dates, as well as the Training Days, will be shown here. We are unable to authorise holidays in term time, if you are planning on taking your child out of school during term time, please come and talk to Mrs Kirby as soon as possible.

How do I apply for a place at Cobden Primary?

If you would like your child to attend Cobden Primary School, please contact the school office who will be able to give you more information. Children can start Nursery at the start of the term after their third birthday. Although we manage our own admissions for Nursery, this does not guarantee a place in Reception. Leeds City Council Admissions Department will be able to provide more information about applying for a place for Reception. Further details can be found here

If you would like to transfer to our school mid-year, please contact the school office who will be able to give you more information.

How do I know how well my child is doing in school?

Parents will be invited to a Parent Consultation Evening in October to find out how your child has settled in to their new class and then again in the Spring Term to check on their progress. You will receive a written report at the end of the Summer Term with will detail the progress they have made throughout the year.
If you have any concerns at any point in the year, please come and see your child's teacher.

What do I do if I am concerned about a pupil at Cobden Primary?
If you have any concerns, please come and see Mrs Head or Mr Kaczmarek and we will be able to give you advice.

How do I change my child’s dinner arrangements?

We understand that some children may want to swap from hot dinners to sandwiches or vice-versa at some point during the year. To make a change, please come and the office staff who will advise you on when these changes can take place.

How much do Hot Dinners cost?

If you wish your child to have a school meal, they cost £2.40 per day (£12.00 per week). From September 2014, all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to school meals free of charge. Menus can be found here.

What happens in bad weather?

We endeavour to open school as normal as often as possible but if the weather is very bad, it may not be safe to do so. If it is snowing, we will try to make you aware if school is open or not on the front page of the school website as soon as a decision has been made. We will also send a Schoop message as soon as we can. Details of how to download the Schoop app can be found here.

If we are unable to open school, we will let you know on the scrolling bar on the front page of the website and we will also follow the Leeds City Council guidelines and make the local radio stations aware. If you are unsure if school is open, please call the school office who will let you.

What uniform does my child need to wear?

Information regarding school uniform can be found here. Some school uniform is available to buy from the school office.

What does my child need to bring to school each day?

It is expected that each child will have a water bottle in school. There are water coolers in cloakrooms so your child can fill up their bottle with fresh, chilled water throughout the day. They also need to have a pair of indoor shoes in school. This ensures that the carpets are kept clean and that your child is comfortable all day. They will also need to wear indoor shoes (pumps or trainers) for PE lessons. Further information about PE uniform can be found here.

Can my child come to Breakfast Club?

All children are welcome to attend Breakfast Club. It starts at 8am and only costs £1.50. Children will be able to eat a nutritious breakfast, play games and see their friends. Breakfast Club takes place in the Hall. It should be paid for through ParentPay. At 8.40, the Breakfast Club staff will send your children to their classrooms to start their day.

What After School Clubs are available?

We do not offer wrap-around care at Cobden and we are unable to guarantee that clubs will be available each day, all year.

We aim to offer a wide range of clubs throughout the year. Letters will be sent home each half term to let you know which clubs are going to be offered. If your child would like to attend one, please return the form, by the stated deadline, and we will let you know if they have been given a place.

Further information about clubs can be found here.
