Leeds City Council Children’s Services (Head of Arts Development)

I have worked in Leeds for 30 years, I live in Wortley and I was originally appointed as the community governor at Cobden Primary. My specialism is in Drama and participatory theatre practice and I have a broad knowledge of the arts and cultural sector locally, regionally and nationally. I am Head of Arts Development for ArtForms - the music and arts team within Children's Services, Leeds City Council. In this role I am responsible for:

  • Arts Strategy - designing and delivering an arts offer for schools in Leeds.
  • Project Management - managing projects and programmes for schools including: Brokering partnerships between schools, artists and the arts and cultural sector, management of budgets and resources. Fundraising.
  • Information, advice and support for schools and the arts and cultural sector.
  • Professional development - coordinating a programme of training for teachers and artists including support for Artsmark and Arts Award.
  • Safeguarding and quality assurance - monitoring and evaluating programmes of work. Promoting good practice in relation to safeguarding.

Previous experience includes working as a freelance drama and theatre practitioner, managing a community based youth arts organisation, support and development worker for CAPE UK and Theatre Projects Officer at the Studio Theatre, Leeds Metropolitan University.
