Our New Outdoor Reading Areas

We have been very lucky to access some funding from Bookmark. They have provided us with the resources to put together these two outdoor reading spaces. Both the reading shed on the key stage one playground  and The Reading Pod on the key stage two playground can be accessed every day during playtime and lunchtimes. They are great places to share books and read with friends.

Book Fair Competition

Children were asked to draw the cover of their favourite book to win some books from our book fair. Entries have been gathered and three winners have been anonymously selected.

Amelia, Ashlyn and Christabel all won some books of their choice. Well done girls. Fabulous drawing!

Upcoming Events

We are excited to welcome a Scholastic Book Fair to school from 25th September to 1st October. Keep an eye on Schoop to find out when the book fair will be open.

Writing

Talk for Writing

At Cobden we aim to develop all our children into confident writers. In Early Years and Key Stage One we use Talk for Writing.

We have chosen Talk for Writing because it is a powerful pedagogy that is based on the principles of how children learn. At Cobden, we want to ensure that from an EARLY AGE, EVERY child has the opportunities to listen to, enjoy and internalise high quality texts. We know that by learning quality texts ‘off by heart’, children will always have an ‘internal bookshelf’ to call upon to support their own imagination, ideas and understanding of reading and writing.

In Key Stage 2 we use The Phase Approach to teaching writing. This approach encourages children to get to know a genre of writing in phase 1. During phase 2 children learn the vocabulary and grammar needed to write that genre. In phase 3 children use the writing process to produce some independent writing in the style they are learning about.
